Why I Need This...
by Bill Allison
cc1
I was driving home when my cell phone rang. I saw it was my wife, Stacy.

I answered the phone in a low, slow, sexy voice, "Sexy Stud Hotline—can I help you?"

I heard Stacy's voice on the other end—not missing a beat: "I'm sorry—I must have the wrong number. I was trying to reach my husband."

It’s with that spirit of humility (or is it humiliation?) that we offer you the first ever Love and Marriage edition of Cadre Connection.

Your Second Most Important Relationship

While attending a marriage conference on communication, Tom and his wife Peg listened to the instructor declare, “It’s essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other.”  The instructor looked at Tom and asked, “Can you describe your wife’s favorite flower?”

Tom leaned over, touched his wife’s arm gently and whispered, “Pillsbury All-Purpose, isn’t it?”    This story—like many marriages (including Christian marriages)—doesn’t have a happy ending.  But your marital story can be different.

If you’re married and believe the Bible, then you realize that your marital relationship with your spouse is limited to your time here on earth (Mark 12:24-25).  Since marriage is only for this side of Heaven, why would you settle for mediocrity in your relationship with your spouse?  Time is short!  Now is the time to do YOUR part in making your marriage rock.  Where can you start?  Here are five FREEBIES to encourage and equip you on your journey to a great marriage...

cc4 The Ooo-La-La Principle—Part 1
Ignore this principle and you will pay dearly
cc5 The Ooo-La-La Principle—Part 2

cc11God’s Manual on Love, Courtship, and Marriage

After she woke up, a woman told her husband, “I just dreamed that you gave me a pearl necklace for Valentine’s Day.  What do you think it means?”

“You’ll know tonight,” he said.

That evening, the man came home with a small package and gave it to his wife.  Delighted, she opened it—to find a book titled, “The Meaning of Dreams.”

True confession: Sometimes, like the man in the story, I just don’t get it.  For example, I’ve been a Christian for thirty years, twenty of which I’ve been married.  I’m embarrassed to say that it wasn’t until last year that I discovered God’s manual on love, courtship, and marriage—Song of Solomon.  For thirty years I’ve held this gem in my hands (along with the other sixty-five books of the Bible) without really grasping God’s clear and beautiful picture of his design for marriage as pictured in SOS.  Sure, I read Song of Solomon multiple times in the past, but I never really took time to STUDY it.    Last year, I invested a good portion of my devotional time reading, studying, and trying to apply Song of Solomon to my life... and marriage.  The picture of marriage in SOS has captured my heart.  I offer the following five FREEBIES—including humorous pictures, audio downloads, true stories, a downloadable SOS PDF study guide, and a variety of potential biblical insights on marriage—to get you started—and hopefully hooked—on your own study of Song of Solomon... God’s manual on love, courtship, and marriage.  You’ve read Dobson.  Great.  Now how about God’s book on marriage?

cc4 Part 1: Why You Need to Read SOS
A picture is worth a thousand words.  This one might be worth ten thousand.
cc5 Part 2: SOS for Western Literalists Who Don’t Get Eastern Poetry
Try saying this to your spouse “Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon.”
cc6 Part 3: The Song of Solomon = SOS
How reading the Bible with my wife caused an argument.
cc7 Part 4: A Twenty-Page Downloadable PDF SOS Study Guide
