Nehemiah believed that our respect for God will lead to a change in behavior—we’ll act different than those who hold a small (and unbiblical) view of God!

Key Passage: Nehemiah 5:15. Also see 5:19.
But the earlier governors—those preceding me—placed a heavy burden on the people and took forty shekels of silver from them in addition to food and wine. Their assistants also lorded it over the people. But out of reverence for God I did not act like that.

Reflect: How does an eternal perspective (vs. living today for today’s sake) change the way you live?







• How does reverence for God produce a practical change in your actions and behavior? What actions should you change as a result of your encounter with Nehemiah’s big God?







Application: Thank God for the ways you can offer worship to him by choosing to live in obedience and sacrifice. Thank him for the ways you’ve been able to worship him at home, school or work simply by living out your reverence for him in those places.
